SAN JOSE, Calif. — Presentation High School, located in San Jose, Calif., seeks a head varsity water polo coach. 

  • Full-time/Part-time: Part-time
  • Salary: $5,750-$7,750 per season
  • Classification: Exempt
  • Reports to: Athletic Director
  • Supervises: Assistant Water Polo Coaches

Position Summary:

  • Head Varsity Water Polo Coach, for the season beginning August, 7th, 2024 and ending around November, 15th, 2024. This position will be responsible for running the Water Polo Program at Presentation, which consists of the varsity and junior varsity teams.

Duties and Specific Responsibilities

  • Schedule games, scrimmages and practices for the program
  • Teach and enhance fundamental skills and techniques, as well as advanced techniques in the sport.
  • Attend all team practices and games (Mon-Fri afternoons. Some Saturday commitments.)
  • Coordinate management of on-site events for all levels with the Athletic Department
  • Attend Athletic meetings as required, including Coach’s meetings and season parent meetings
  • Participate in all regional and sectional playoffs to which the team is entitled
  • Report all game results to Athletic Department
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate behavior on the part of athletes at practices, games, and in transit to and from events
  • Abide by all WCAL and CIF-CCS rules and regulations and attend meetings as required
  • Prioritize an environment of safety for our student-athletes and provide first aid when required
  • Manage and maintain program equipment
  • Coordinate season-end awards program
  • Attend school functions related to the promotion of Athletic programs (ie: Open House)

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Experience playing competitive water polo preferred
  • Experience teaching Water Polo skills and strategies that apply to the skill level of the players
  • Professional dedication to athletic development and expertise in coaching
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of players
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • CIF – Fundamentals of Coaching Certification required

The Head Varsity Coach must be able to:

  • Lift and/or carry all sports-specific equipment required to effectively run and organize training and competition
  • Sit, stand, walk, climb stairs or ladder, reach, perform repetitive movements
  • Work with frequent interruptions
  • Also, considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer terminal.
  • Afternoon, evening, and weekend hours are typical for all coaching roles.

Work Environment

  • The work environment characteristics described below represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:
  • Active work environment on a pool deck, in a gym, or a fitness room. Some time will be spent working on email, but most of the work will take place actively training students and the team.
