Georgia High School Water Polo
About GHSWPA
Georgia High School Water Polo had very humble beginnings, but continues to grow exponentially. It started in 2006 when some students from Marietta started playing water polo in the summer in a subdivision pool. The athletes, led by Wheeler High School student Owen Sweitzer, built their own goals and received donated balls and caps from the local Masters club team, Dynamo Water Polo. As the years progressed more teams were added and the league now boasts 18 teams.
The GHSWPA would not be possible without the tireless efforts of parents, coaches and other volunteers, including local players from Dynamo Water Polo, Georgia Tech and Emory. Most of the coaches within the GHSWPA do not get paid and donate countless hours to give their athletes an opportunity to participate. The league is completely funded by team dues and revenues from tournaments, concessions and t-shirts.
