BRIDGEPORT, Pa — American Water Polo Director Dan Sharadin released the following statement and call to action to help save college sports –
There is a movement among Division I Conferences to change the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) requirement maintaining a minimum number of sports at each institution. If successful, this effort will see countless sports teams dropped under the premise of the COVID pandemic, removing opportunities for our student-athletes.
I believe there are other solutions that can be explored without this drastic and most likely irreversible decision. In fact, dropping sports in many instances may actually weaken an institution’s revenue stream long-term, due to decreased enrollment.
