PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — American Water Polo mourns the passing of former official Jeff Hyde on August 1.

Born in Flushing Queens, NY, he graduated from Conestoga High School and the University of Findlay (Ohio), where he received his Bachelor’s degree.  He was a three sport varsity athlete at Conestoga – football, wrestling and tennis, and two sport varsity athlete at the University of Findlay – football and tennis.

He was a sales representative for several local and national office supply and equipment companies until his retirement in 2011.

For over 35 years, Jeff was a dedicated high school and college water polo, swimming, and track & field official.  He served in leadership roles within the PIAA, Middle Atlantic Swimming, and the Philadelphia Country Club Swimming Association. He was recently recognized by the Philadelphia Country Club Swimming Association for his many years of service as an official and board member.

He was an enthusiastic member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club, where he developed many lifelong friendships.  He enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and platform tennis. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Joyce Angeny Hyde, and was the devoted father of Matthew Hyde (Blair) of Ambler, PA., and Jennifer Hyde (CJ Dulberger) of Jacksonville, Fla. He was the cherished grandfather of Emma Hyde and brother of Ron Hyde (Robert Peters) of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Larry Hyde (Beth) of Wyndmoor, Pa.  He was the cherished uncle of Garrison and Anna Hyde.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jeff’s Memorial Service on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 22 East Chestnut Hill Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa., 19118. There will be a reception following the service at The Philadelphia Cricket Club, 415 West Willow Grove Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa., 19118.
